Graduate AI Engineer
- Full-time
- 12-month fixed term
- Melbourne, hybrid
- Graduate
Perform Digital Pty Ltd builds AI products for Australian organisations. We're looking for a graduate engineer to spend twelve months helping us build, maintain and implement them: writing product code, keeping it healthy in production, and getting it working inside our clients' systems.
The products you'll work on
You'll work on AI software products that Perform Digital Pty Ltd builds and owns: products that connect to an organisation's systems and data and put AI to work on them. We share full product details with shortlisted candidates once we've spoken.
What you'll do
- Develop: build features, integrations and APIs for our products, with code review from experienced engineers.
- Maintain: fix bugs, write and run tests and evaluations, and help monitor the products in production.
- Implement: help deploy and configure the products for Australian clients and connect them to the systems and data those clients already use.
- Write clear documentation for the things you build, for the team and for clients.
What you'll need
- A completed degree, or one you'll finish before starting, in computer science, software engineering, data science or a related field.
- Programming experience in at least one language such as Python or TypeScript/JavaScript, from study, projects or work.
- Curiosity about how large language models and AI agents work, and how to make them reliable.
- Clear written and spoken English, and comfort explaining technical work to non-technical people.
- Full Australian work rights (Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or a visa with unrestricted work rights). We can't sponsor a visa for this role.
Nice to have
- Projects using LLM APIs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) or the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Experience with SQL, cloud platforms or working with data pipelines.
What we offer
- A 12-month, full-time fixed-term role with Perform Digital Pty Ltd, with the possibility of a permanent role at the end of the term.
- A competitive graduate salary plus superannuation.
- Hybrid work: time together in Melbourne, plus days working from home.
- Real product work from the start, alongside the engineers who build our products.
How to apply
Email careers@performdigital.com.au with:
- your CV (and academic transcript, if you have it handy);
- a link to some code you've written: GitHub, a project or coursework; and
- a few lines on something you've built and what you'd do differently next time.
We use what you send only to assess your application.
